How to live with purpose

Wednesday, April 26th, 2017 Faith, Lifestyle

Sometimes in life, we feel stuck. Ok, a lot of times! We can feel like we’re chained to our circumstances, and without even realizing it, we develop victim mentalities. It’s so easy to fall into because it seems like the popular thing to do nowadays, to complain about our jobs, our situations, our date (or lack thereof), etc. Just fyi, I’m speakin’ to myself, too! :)

With all of this stuck-ness, how are we supposed to ever figure out how to live with purpose? Or how to figure out our purpose? How are we supposed to live intentionally when we live in a constant state of not-enough-ness and not-ready-yet-ness?

I’ve spent years trying to figure this out…but what’s crazy is that it’s so much simpler than we make it out to be.

You know what gets in the way of us living with purpose? It’s a four letter word… FEAR. It keeps us stuck, it keeps us feeling icky, unhealthy, uncomfortable, exhausted, (insert any negative word you can think of). If fear didn’t exist, then we wouldn’t be afraid to go after what it is that God has purposed for us. Many of us know what it is that we are purposed for within our hearts…we are just too afraid to dream about it for fear that it won’t happen. But, we forget that we have a God who is able to move mountains, who will give you His spirit, His support, His courage … when we align our purpose with His word, know our identity in Jesus, keep Him close to us, stay in the Word, and be in constant prayer for direction…we can be confident and take authority over our fear. We don’t need to fear when we have the King of Kings in our hearts. No matter what happens, we can rest assured that our confidence, our worth, our everything resides in Him alone…so what is there to lose?!

What amazes me is that if we really really really knew who we were, then fear wouldn’t be a thing. We’d know that the “the Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you (Romans 8:11).”

Wait…whatttttt?! That’s CRAZY. Take a moment to actually think about that! The strength of the Spirit of God that literally RAISED Jesus from the DEAD lives in YOU. Y-O-U. It’s so hard to fully understand the utter strength, the depth of love, and the boldness that actually lives within us. We push that Spirit away with our insecurities, with our doubt, with our thinking that we are chained to our circumstances.

What if you lived today as if you knew that Spirit lived within you? How would you stand? How would you view the world around you? How would you treat your neighbor? How brave would you be?

What if we ALL knew this? What kind of world would we live in?

So go ahead. Quit the job that you can’t stand. Ask the cutie out on a date. Pray for the homeless man at the street corner, hold his hand. Lead with your heart. Make eye contact. Write the blog post. Say ‘I love you.’ Start before you’re ready.

Go forth knowing that the same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead lives in you.

Dana, this is beautiful! <3 Amen!!
I love this part: "when we align our purpose with His word, know our identity in Jesus, keep Him close to us, stay in the Word, and be in constant prayer for direction…we can be confident and take authority over our fear."
Thank you for this important reminder. :)

Thank you so so much, Jessi!! :) It’s something I have to remind myself of a lot! Honestly, it’s something that has held me back from “going all out” with what I believe I’m purposed for — because I wasn’t sure how I could tell if it was really really what God wanted for my life. I think that’s a trick of the enemy. If we’re staying close to Jesus, then He’s going to guide our steps!! :) xoxoxo
